Burden Bros Contractors Agricultural Machinery Sale a Great Success

Home Market & International Bidders Make Burden Bros Contractors Agricultural Machinery Sale a Great Success.

It is not often the opportunity presents itself to acquire such a special inventory of agricultural contracting machinery, but on 21st April at Old Rides Farm, Eastchurch, Isle of Sheppey, Burden Bothers opened their doors to an international audience, and business was brisk

This unique sale was greatly anticipated within the industry, and the exceptional inventory of stock that had been amassed for this sale certainly grabbed the interest of not just a local audience, but from a predicted list of registered international bidders. The sale focused exclusively on the disposal of equipment and machinery from the agricultural contracting side of the Burden Bros business, specialising in forage harvesting and bailing.

Euro Auctions were appointed as valuers and auctioneers at what is commonly known in the trade as an 'off site' sale, where the auction is conducted at the vendors own site or facility. In the case of Burden Bros, Euro Auctions brought all the infrastructure and expertise required to conduct the sale to Burden Bros on the Isle of Sheppey, which included setting out the lots for sale, setting up onsite Wi-Fi for faster online bidding, supplying the auctioneers to run the sale, onsite administration to manage registrations and taking payments, bid-catchers, welfare and catering, in addition to setting up a live feed to broadcast the sale 'live' to a global buying audience in real-time.

Prices were solid, with equipment being of the highest quality and condition, and bidding was brisk. A total of 397 lots went under the hammer, with the hammer total for the sale being £2.674m with £1.135m of bids being conducted online. Whilst Euro Auctions markets to an international database of known and loyal buyers, over 20% of bidder registrations were new and unique to this sale, showing again, the local interest in this auction.

Predictably the majority of successful bids came from the UK with 85% of all items staying in these shores, with the remaining of the successful bids coming from Germany, Belgium, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Poland, and Uruguay.

John Burden, Managing Director of Burden Brothers explains the reason for the disposal sale, " As one of the largest specialist agricultural contractors s in the southeast, we decided to scale back our reach and concentrate on the geographical region closest to our operating base. We retained all the machinery for our own farming interest and scaled down the contracting side of our operations."

David Betts, of Euro Auctions and manager of this sale comments, “With predominantly 2017 to 2021 plate machines in excellent overall condition, this sale did, as anticipated, draw much attention from local and international bidders. We are always surprised at sales of this nature, and in this case, it was the number of new registrations for this sale. Also, Burden Brothers worked incredibly hard with Euro Auctions to present the lots for sale in the best possible way. Prices were strong, bidders were very active, and Burden Brothers were very happy with the outcome of the sale. All in all, this was a very good days work."
